Creativity

New media fosters creativity in that new media allows for users to better give feedback to the innovators. As mentioned in the NYTimes articles, Twitter Serves Up Ideas From Its Followers, upon inception, Twitter was a basic little social networking site without much to offer, with the creators struggling to figure out how users can best use the site, and what kind of features to implement to foster a better environment. Because of the mechanics of new media, the users were able to voice their opinions and the webmasters were able to listen in real time and see what kind of ideas were most popular. The idea of "hashtags" and "lists" were quickly implemented with much worry, as the creators were unsure how such an idea would work with the general user, however they could see different uses for such feature upon inception. A hashtag allowed for users to better search through discussions about various topics without having to sift through pages and pages of content, as the hashtag was used to organize the discussion in such a way that it was easy to read and search via their search setting.

Having such an idea for a feature come from users rather than website creators is a direct product of the beauty of new media. Instead of trying to come up with problems to solve, creators can rely on directly listening to their users and the public to decide what kind of creative features to implement and what problems to solve as a result.
