Advice
You are hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the College. What are some suggestions you would make using new media?
I would propose a more interactive lecture. Often times professors are at the head of a lecture in front of 100+ students where half of the students sit there and do not pay attention because they are not involved. It is understandable that students should be sitting and paying attention to the information, but it can be argued that a more stimulating lecture is one that a student can actively participate in. Raising hands in a public forum can be time consuming and nerve wracking for students, but if we implement tablets that hook up to projection screens, along with a device similar to a clicker, students are more involved in the lecture and can ask/answer questions in real time.
Another new media suggestion I would impose is the use of better online classes. Many students in such a busy city are simply not able to attend classes during the times that they are available due to work or family responsibilities, so a well designed online class that includes a lecture, and a well designed homework system can go a long way for people who cannot physically sit in a class room. There should be more opportunities for students to attend classes for a broad range of classes rather than attempt to sign up for a class that they need to graduate at a time that they would have to pick either attending their job to be able to afford rent, or attend the class to get a good grade.

I agree with you, because we usually lose our interest when are in a big classroom. It really helps if we can have a recorded lecture of our class, so we can review it anytime we want. On your second suggestion, I am doubting the quality and effectiveness of our graduates and undergraduates if we finish some major class online.
